What to expect when you come in
A first visit to the vet can feel like a lot, especially with a nervous pet. Here is how it goes, and a few small things that make the day easier.

How an appointment works

Check in at reception
Give us your name at the desk. There is space to wait, with cats and dogs kept a little apart.

A full examination
The vet takes a history and examines your pet properly, from nose to tail.

Plain explanations
We tell you what we find in words that make sense, and answer whatever you want to ask.

Agree the next steps
We agree what happens next and what it costs, together, before anything goes ahead.
Before you come
A few small things that help
- There is parking behind the clinic, off the road.
- Please bring cats in a secure carrier. It keeps them calm and safe.
- Keep dogs on a lead in reception, for everyone's comfort.
- Bring any medication and past history if you have it to hand.
- Arrive a few minutes early, so there is time to settle in.
- Jot down any questions beforehand, so nothing gets forgotten.

My pet gets anxious at the vet
Tell us when you book and when you arrive. We take our time, keep things gentle, and can suggest ways to make the next visit easier.
How long should I allow?
A standard consultation runs to about fifteen minutes. Please allow a little extra in case we are running behind after an emergency.
What about out of hours?
We are open the hours below. For emergencies outside those hours, UCC Vet Emergency looks after our patients. Call us and we will guide you.
